Former teacher and media executive Willem Breytenbach has been released on R50 000 bail following his first court appearance on Thursday December 5.
Breytenbach, who was recently unmasked as the infamous sex pest “Jimmy” in Deon Wigget’s four-part podcast, My Only Story, is accused of sexually molesting numerous boys and young men over the past few decades during both his teaching and corporate careers.
According to the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape, Eric Ntabazalila, the former Media24 executive faces two charges – one of indecent assault for an incident back in 1997, and the second charge of sexual assault, which allegedly happened in 2017. He added that the investigation is ongoing and that “more charges could be added”.
In addition, the former Grey College teacher had to surrender his passport to the investigating officer and “must not set foot at Home Affairs or any immigration office.”
Breytenbach is also expected to report three times a week at Klein Brak Rivier police station in the Mossel Bay area, on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7am and 7pm.
Ntabazalila further confirmed to JacarandaFM that he “may not communicate with the witnesses directly or indirectly”, and “not even on social media”. He also may not leave the Mossel Bay area without informing the investigating officers.
The matter is expected to proceed in court on February 4.
