Gay Jo’burg man goes missing with no leads

It’s been more than three weeks since husband, family and friends have heard a word from Wayne Johnson. Wayne is a 43-year-old businessman from Parkview in Johannesburg and was last seen on Wednesday June 12 in Rabie Ridge, Midrand.

His husband, Charl Smith, and family have growing concerns because the police have not been able to find any credible leads to his whereabouts. Speaking to YOU, Smith said that he last saw his husband in the morning after making him his coffee. From there, it’s reported that he headed off to work.

“It was an ordinary day in our household – I never could’ve imagined that Wayne would just disappear like that,” says Charl.

“It’s been more than three weeks and we have no answers. It feels like one long day from which I just can’t wake up”.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white collar shirt and a black bomber jacket.

The police were able to track his mobile phone and have identified a man in Kempton Park who was using Wayne’s cellphone and SIM. Wayne’s 2018 Renault Clio was briefly put up for sale on Facebook, but the ad has been deleted.

An arrest was made but the suspect was released shortly after.

“The suspect handed himself over after being sought by the police for a while and was arrested for [suspected] kidnapping and hijacking as he was found to have been using the missing person’s sim card, pretending to be him,” Captain Sifiso Mabizela told the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

“The missing person’s car was not found”.

According to MambaOnline, the suspect was released pending an application to access the information on the mobile device he had in his possession. This lead to Charl, friends and community members staging a protest outside the Parkview Police Station with demands that they do something.

“We feel police aren’t doing enough to find Wayne. We’re waiting for answers we’re just not getting,” Charl told YOU.

Charl has resorted to pleading on social media for anyone who might know anything about Wayne’s whereabouts to come forward. He’s has been posting daily updates under the hashtag of #bringwaynehome.
