Man arrested for strangling and mutilating elderly man

Murder accused Alex Scott.
A 24-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a 64-year-old man, in what has been described as a “vicious, ferocious, crime scene attack”.

Alex Scott is accused of murdering Kenneth Savinski, an antiques dealer, in New York on Wednesday January 29, mutilating and strangling him after they had met through a dating app.

Reported by the New York Post, it’s alleged that Scott went back to Savinski’s apartment on East 83rd near Lexington Avenue after they met through dating app, said a prosecutor at Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday February 1. It was not specified which dating app the two used to communicate with one
another.

“We see the two of them on surveillance video, walking arm in arm. The victim thought this would be a romantic liaison,” said the Assistant District Attorney Shira Arnow.

“The defendant thought this would be an opportunity to rob and attack”.

The court heard details of how Scott allegedly stabbed the older man in the face and neck, hitting his carotid artery, then strangled him to death inside the apartment. Savinski’s head was mutilated with a knife or a sharp ceramic object.

Scott then grabbed the victim’s watch, credit cards and cash.

“Two hours after we see him go into the victim’s apartment, he leaves. On surveillance video … we see him wearing the victim’s jacket, counting cash,” said Arnow.

“Over the next day, he used the victim’s credit cards to buy himself food, to buy new clothing and cab rides”.

Then, on Friday January 31, “he walked into the Midtown North Precinct with Savinski’s credit cards and ID on him and says he doesn’t remember the past few days, but he thinks he may have killed someone,” Arnow said.

Astonishingly, Scott is already facing trial in his home state, Oklahoma, on charges that he sexually assaulted a 6-year-old boy.

The court heard that he had cut off his electronic monitoring tag before travelling to New York. The 24-year-old was ordered to be held without bail, with more facts in the case likely come to light.
