Following the revelation earlier this month that one of her adopted children came out to her as trans at the age of three, Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has taken to Twitter to mock Charlize Theron.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, the actress recalled how “yes, I thought she was a boy, too. Until she looked at me when she was three-years-old and said: ‘I am not a boy!’ So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.”
While this announcement has been met with a mix of support and criticism, Hofmeyr made sure everyone knew where he stood on the matter with this tweet: “Dear Charlize, My daughter sometimes wears underpants. She is 20-months-old. Is it perhaps the right time to ask her if she feels a balance of y-chromosome?”
According to MambaOnline, this lead to a host of transphobic comments from Hofmeyr’s followers, which he chose not to publicly call out or condemn.
These included calling Theron “sick” and a “slut”, alongside asking questions such as “if a child should be indulged if they believe they are a cat or a dolphin?”
Both Hofmeyr or Theron have yet to make further public comments on the matter.
